ECLAC Announces its 2011 Course Offering
Focus: Electronic and Mobile Government
Description: ECLAC, through ILPES (its central training body) offers courses on various economic and social issues of the region.

The Latin American and Caribbean Institute for Economic and Social Planning (ILPES) is a permanent institution with its own identity and is part of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). It was founded in 1962 and its mission is to support the Governments of the region in the field of public administration, through research, advisory and, in particular, training activities.

The efforts made by ILPES in the area of training may be illustrated by the fact that in its 50 years of existence it has provided various types of courses for over 25,000 participants from the countries in the region, and mainly from the public sector. The teaching personnel for these courses were from universities or academic centres in Latin America and the Caribbean and also private-sector and civil-society institutions.

ILPES/ECLAC has the comparative advantage of working in very specialized areas and offering short courses which are generally not available in this form in the programmes of academic centres in Ibero-America. These courses allow a combination of theory and practice, and systematize the experiences of the countries in the region.

The language of instruction is Spanish and the courses are usually from one to five weeks in duration.
