Twenty-seven of the United States’ brightest innovators recently went to work for Uncle Sam as the third class of Presidential Innovation Fellows, and will spend the next year collaborating with federal government employees on crowdsourcing, big data and veterans’ issues.
Selected from a pool of more than 1,000 designers, developers, entrepreneurs and executives who applied for the opportunity, these 27 fellows will work on a number of projects during the next 12 months with the goal of developing them into to tools and platforms to help Americans at start-up speed.
Past Presidential Innovation Fellows have helped connect Americans with their own electronic health data, opened up the data from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and designed portals to make it easier for citizens to do business with the United States.
The fellows will be supported by 18F, a group within the U.S. General Services Administration focused on delivering digital services across the federal government. They will work alongside the U.S. Digital Service and agency innovators in continuing to build a culture and best practices within government.
On the morning of Thursday, Sept. 11, this third round of Presidential Innovation Fellows was sworn in.
