The number of installed 4G base stations in Argentina increased from 5,365 in January 2016 to 9,645 in October, reports local daily La Nacion, citing figures from communications regulator Enacom. Although Argentina was one of the last countries in South America to launch LTE, the three operators offering 4G services (Movistar, Personal and Claro) have increased the number of base stations nearly tenfold from the 1,416 installed in May 2015. Some 37 percent of the country’s 26,498 base stations are now LTE-enabled, with nearly 60 percent located in the Greater Buenos Aires area.
The report added that 4G services are currently available in 960 localities across the country, with Movistar providing the most wide-ranging coverage via more than 3,600 base stations serving 4.4 million active LTE customers.
