The government will provide 100-thousand euros in financial support to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to assist with the resolution of the political crisis in Ukraine.
Deputy Foreign Minister for multilateral and global affairs Shin Dong-ik announced the plan at the OSCE’s Security Days 2014 conference in Vienna, Austria, on Tuesday.
Shin attended the event as the representative of the current chair of the UN Security Council. The deputy minister sought the OSCE’s attention and cooperation in tackling the North Korean nuclear issue and improving security in Northeast Asia. He also asked the organization to back South Korea’s Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative.
The OSCE is a security-oriented intergovernmental organization with 57 member countries. It is now acting as a mediator to end the crisis in Ukraine. South Korea has been a partner of the OSCE since 1994.
