Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III and his administration will continue with his effort to make the government corruption-free up to the last day of his administration, a senior government official said Wednesday.

This was after Berlin-based Transparency International disclosed that 35 percent of Filipinos surveyed felt that corruption "has decreased a little" over the past two years.

Meanwhile, 19 percent believed that corruption "increased a lot " and 31 percent said it "has stayed the same" under the Aquino administration. Only two percent said it "has decreased a lot."

But for Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda, the latest Global Corruption Barometer of 2013 released by the Transparency International was an indication that the government's fight against corruption was gaining headway.

"We recognize that there are still some levels of corruption but the people have seen that there is a consistent fight against corruption under this government and so that has been recognized by those surveyed," he said in a press briefing.

He said the Aquino government will continue to fight corruption.

"This is an ongoing process and it will continue to the very last day in our administration," Lacierda stressed.

When Aquino ran for presidency in 2010, he vowed to fight corruption under the "straight path." He will step down from office in June 2016 after completing a six-year term.
