Chairman of the interim election council Khil Raj Regmi Friday said the upcoming three-year national plan will focus on poverty alleviation and social justice.

Addressing a seminar on the three-year national plan prepared by National Planning Commission in the capital, Regmi said that lack of equal distribution of services and facilities is one of the major impediments to economic progress.

Regmi said there is a need of proper management of natural resources along with the development of hydropower and alternative energy generation for the economic development of the country.

The seminar also discussed the efforts to lift Nepal from least developed countries in next 10 years by bringing poverty down to 18 percent from the existing 23.3 percent.

The previous three-year plan had aimed to reduce poverty to 21 percent from 25 percent. However, the aim has not been achieved so far.

The National Development Council will approve the three-year plan after the discussion that will run till Saturday.
