South Korea's welfare authority said Wednesday it plans to inject 8.9 trillion won (US$7.77 billion) into its health insurance program by 2017 to expand the scope of coverage and reduce burdens held by patients.
The move came in line with the Ministry of Health and Welfare's plan to slash medical expenses incurred by patients suffering from four major ailments, namely heart disease, cancer, cerebrovascular diseases, and incurable diseases by 43 percent by 2016.
