Speaking during a campaign rally held by his Gaumee Ihthihad Party (GIP) for the youth, the president stressed that action is being taken against anyone accused of corruption in spite of position or affiliation.

"Insha Allah if we keep this up, we will be able to wipe out corruption from the Maldives,” he said.

The president highlighted the importance of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) and audit office to the Maldives’ infant democracy. The only responsibility of the government is to not “meddle” with the two institutions, he added.

"Government can empower such institutions in order to ensure its independence. To prevent such acts within the government,” he said.
