The Ministry of Health Care of Azerbaijan gave instructions on the launch of distance education with the use of modern information communication technologies in a number of professions (internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, family medicine, general surgery) for the first time. According to the schedule of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Advanced Medical Studies, postgraduate courses on 33 professions started in 2012/2013 academic year, the Ministry of Education reported to Trend. The lectures are held through internet and special programs in the classrooms of the Institute in Baku, so as not to distract the doctors in the regions from work. Distance education enables saving of travel costs and prevents long absence from work. Within the year postgraduate courses will be attended by 600 trainees.
