Turkmenistan Preparing to Move to 11-Year Education

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov ordered to study the best international practices to extend term of education in secondary schools in the country to 11-12 years, an official Turkmen source said.

This topic has been key on the agenda of recent meeting on the reform of the system of education, including academic and higher education, vocational and secondary schools.

A government report then noted that "in the context of the immediate tasks aimed at the consistent improving quality of education, training highly qualified specialists for the various sectors of the national economy, raising the intellectual potential of the nation, the President outlined a number of priority issues for the further development of national education system."

In recent years Turkmenistan restored the Academy of Sciences disbanded before, Graduate School, education returned to the standard norms (from nine to ten years), and foreign diplomas again began to be recognised. Unique institutions of the desert and the sun were also restored.

An industrial park is being built near Ashgabat. According to the Turkish Polimeks project, within it construction of technology museum is provided. The object is intended to encourage innovation and partially resembles akademgorodok (university campus) of the USSR.
