BEIJING, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Vice President Xi Jinping on Wednesday stressed the importance of the role played by the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the country's non-public enterprises.
Non-public enterprises, including private companies and businesses controlled by overseas shares, are an "important force in the development of the socialist market economy," said Xi, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC's Central Committee.
"The multitude of non-public enterprises and their role have determined the increasingly important nature of party-building in the non-public sector," he told a national meeting.
Party-building is still new to non-public enterprises and many problems have emerged, Xi said, adding that more efforts should be made in recruiting party members and enhancing the CPC's influence.
Party activities organized in non-public companies should center on implementing CPC guidelines and policies, safeguarding workers' rights and interests, building an advanced corporate culture and promoting enterprises' development, he said.
Party-building efforts in non-public enterprises should be varied in order to increase their effectiveness, Xi said.
