A high official has unveiled the government’s plans to offer incompetent civil servants early retirement packages in order to maintain integrity and save the budget.
“Before doing that, we will organize a competency test first,” Administrative Reforms deputy minister Eko Prasojo said in Kediri, East Java as quoted by Antara news wire on Wednesday.
He said those who had passed the test would be further trained to improve their skills and those who hadn’t passed would be given early retirement packages.
Eko acknowledged that the government was now bearing a heavy burden after finding out that 40 percent out of 4.6 million civil servants were incompetent. The salary spending has reached Rp 215.7 trillion (US$25.24 billion) in the 2012 draft state budget, or 15 percent out of the overall state expenditure.
Currently the ministry has temporarily halted civil servant recruitment until the end of this year.
