Papua New Guinea: Govt Believes in Empowering Citizens
Source: The National

Focus: ICT for MDGs
Country: Papua New Guinea

THE government believes it can empower Papua New Guineans with the right education, life skills and provide them with the opportunity to earn an honest living, Education secretary Dr Musawe Sinebare says. He said in education, the focus was to improve infrastructure like classrooms and houses in order to support inspectors and teachers in the districts to carry out their professional tasks. “The overall objective of the government is to provide access to quality education and training to support our social and economic development for our country,” he said. Sinebare said the objective of the education system must be that all initiatives and interventions result in every citizen “being peaceful, productive and self-reliant, having a positive outlook of life and living”. While launching an action research booklet for teachers yesterday in Port Moresby, Sinebare said teachers were often referred to as builders of the nation. He said they played a vital role in the growth, development and success of the country. Sinebare said the launch supported the government’s policy and PNG Vision 2050 in providing quality education through training and curriculum materials to support teachers in their work throughout the country. He said the booklet would boost the morale of teachers and enable them to identify strategies.
