Indonesia will have an international-class disaster emergency training center by 2013 that will be built in Sentul area of West Java province, an official told reporters here on Tuesday.
Wisnu Widjaja, head of Education and Training Center of Disaster Mitigation at the National Agency of Disaster Management (BNPB), said that the United Nations will provide teaching and training modules.
"Our president said that the training should be an international-class one," said Widjaja.
He added that the facilities are expected to become an international training center that could be used by foreign officials.
"Look, you want to see remains of earthquake or volcano eruption, we have them. These could be some kind of disaster laboratory," said Widjaja.
He said that UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon on March 20 is scheduled to visit a 4 hectare-land where the training center will be located.
According to Widjaja, his office keeps coordinating with foreign agencies such as Germany and Japan, and especially the UN.
