South Korea has decided to allow citizens free use of the central government's and public organizations' amenity facilities from this summer.
The government on Friday made the decision in a national policy coordination meeting presided over by Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik.
Starting in May, the government will make agreements with five state agencies to open on a trial basis 30 playgrounds, 100 sports facilities, four educational facilities and parking spaces for 20-thousand vehicles.
From July, the government will open to the public all amenity facilities of the central government and its affiliated organizations.
The prime minister said the government will allow students to use the facilities on weekends as the five-day school week system has gone into effect. He added he hopes the private sector can voluntarily join in with the opening of convenient facilities made for their employees.
