The Victorian Government is allocating US$11.7 million (AUD$11 million) on a new Digital Futures Fund (DFF) to fast-track research and development into data mining, analytics, cloud computing and cyber-security.
These technology platforms will support the state’s foray into a “digital future,” and are seen as areas of strategic importance.
Funding for these platforms will be drawn from the Digital Futures Fund. This DFF initiative brings together peak government bodies, as well as industry and R&D partners.
This latest funding will support cutting-edge information and communications technology (ICT) projects, says Victoria’s Minister for Technology, Gordon Rich-Phillips.
He says government-industry collaboration will encourage Victorian companies, researchers and end-users to team up on the development and delivery of technology solutions.
Expressions of interest for the first round of funding close 12 April 2012.
The DFF is a another initiative under the Victorian government’s “Technology Plan for the Future.” This program factors in a budget of US$90 million (AUD$85 million) on ICT innovation.
Among recent high-profile projects, the government has supported a cloud computing and data centre facility at the Port of Melbourne.
This regional hub taps into growing demand for cloud computing services, and high volumes of internet data and broadband traffic.
