In consultation with the Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam, Dr Nguyen Thien Nhan, the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Nguyen Tan Dung, will be appointed the Chairman of Vietnam’s national overseeing ICT body, which is also set to take on new roles and responsibilities.
“The Office of Government has released Deputy PM Nhan’s opinion on preparing for upgrading the National Steering Committee on ICT (NSICT) into the National ICT Committee chaired by PM Nguyen Tan Dung on 17 Feb 2012,” revealed Dr Phung Van On, Director, IT Centre, Government Office of Vietnam, in an exclusive interview with FutureGov.
The NSICT was established in 2008 and headed by the Deputy Prime Minister Dr Nguyen Thien Nhan. Located at office of Ministry of Information and Communications, it is responsible for advising the government on policies and strategic solutions to potentially leverage, supervising IT application development, and overseeing ICT matters for the whole country.
According to On, this is “really great news for ICT industry in Vietnam, this being the year of the Dragon” and the handover is expected to be approved soon.
This establishment is expected to newly position and strengthen the Vietnamese economy within the ICT context and revitalise the development of the ICT Industry.
