Taiwan's new executive body led by Sean Chen was sworn in Monday, replacing outgoing Wu Den-yih, who was elected the island's deputy leader in January.

Chen said at a changeover ceremony that the end of the election means the beginning of responsibility, and Taiwan should continue its growth based on stability.

Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou reshuffled the government after he won a second term last month.

"Taiwan needs a new wave of economic transformation, scientific innovation, cultural creativity and research power, and should develop an exportable service sector," Chen said.

He added that a more reasonable system of income distribution, tax reform and social welfare should be prioritized, and efforts should be made to increase the salaries of the middle-class and poor.

Chen also held the first meeting of members of the new executive body after he took his oath of office.

A new secretary-general of the ruling Kuomintang party and other officials of Chen's office were also sworn in Monday.
