Azerbaijan Expects Poverty Problem to Be Resolved by 2015

It is planned to fully resolve the poverty issue in Azerbaijan by 2015, Labor and Social Security Minister Fizuli Alekperov said in an interview posted on the official website of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party.

"Azerbaijan successfully executes the state program for poverty reduction and sustainable development for 2008-2015," he said. "As a result, the poverty rate hit 9 percent in 2010. The issue is planned to be resolved by 2015." He said that more than 900,000 new jobs were established in the country in 2003-2010. It made a major contribution to poverty reduction.

"Regular improving the wages, increasing the employment opportunities for citizens and other factors also played an important role," he said.

In 2009, the poverty rate was 10.9 percent.
