Over twenty years of independence Kazakhstan has become a center of culture, social prosperity and economic development in the region. Struan Stevenson, member of the European Parliament told Kazakh journalists in Brussels.

According to him, Kazakhstan has become a stable and prosperous society in conditions of existence of various ethnic groups, nationalities and confessions.

Mr. Stevenson said he began visiting Kazakhstan 11 year ago and he saw the construction of new capital - Astana, which grew up in the middle of the steppe. He also saw Almaty, Semipalatinsk and other cities that have grown along with new hotels, supermarkets, restaurants, roads and other modern infrastructure. "Today, many cities in Kazakhstan have the same problems that exist in the major developed modern cities, like traffic jams," he added.
