PUTRAJAYA, 26 JUNE, 2011: The 2nd General Police Exhibition and Special Equipment Exhibition & Conference Asia 2011 (GPEC Asia 2011), which will be held here for three days starting tomorrow will also discuss online hackers, in their seminar for homeland security.
Home Ministry Secretary-General Tan Sri Mahmood Adam said foreign experts from Germany, Unites States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK) have been invited to share their knowledge and give a better understanding of the issues.
"These experts ate also involved in the recent government websites hacking incident. Although CyberSecurity Malaysia is investigating, they are willing to help," he told reporters after inspecting the preparations for the conference at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here.
Mahmood said the event, which will be officiated by Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein tomorrow, will see 120 exhibitors from more than 29 countries including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, Spain, China, Australia and Saudi Arabia participating.
He said a ministerial level meeting featuring Home Affairs Ministers from most Asean countries would also be held during the conference, to discuss transborder crimes, including human trafficking, money laundering, transnational crime, weapons, drug trafficking and terrorism.
"We are facing a common enemy, so let’s not waste our time. Let’s share and pool our intelligence. We have to coordinate among ourselves and discuss how to sort this out," he added.
The GPEC is a closed specialized trade show exclusively for members of authorities dealing in police equipment, security, technology and services, showcasing innovations and technologies for the state-of-the-art equipment and training, focusing mainly at strengthening state security against terrorism, crimes and other related homeland threat.
It acts as a congregational point for regional law enforcement agencies besides being a platform for inter-disciplinary cooperation for information exchange.
The first GPEC was held in Germany in 2009, involving 90 exhibitors.
