Australian Senator Lundy Announces FutureGov Congress Australia

Focus: ICT for MDGs
Country: Australia

The Hon. Kate Lundy, Senator for the Australian Capital Territory, announced, at the Parliament House, the launch of FutureGov Congress in Canberra which will be held from the 12th to the 14th of September this year.

The FutureGov Congress is a high-level conference featuring local and international experts in the e-government space. Organised by FutureGov Asia Pacific Magazine, Asia’s only Government, Education, and Healthcare modernisation title, the Congress will showcase new developments in public sector delivery from around the world. It will also provide a platform for Australian public servants to meet and interact with their local and international counterparts and share ideas on how to achieve best practices in government processes and services to the public.

The days of 12-14 September 2011 mark an important three-day event on the national e-Government and Gov 2.0 calendar, as these events will serve to reflect the maturity of Australia’s government services ecosystem, the technology choices that have been made by agencies, and the high level of interest of other countries in emulating aspects of the Australian government transformation journey.

“Australia is a world leader in e-Government and has been for many years and is now emerging as a leader in Gov 2.0 - a very strong agenda led by Minister Gary Gray who will be speaking at the opening of the FutureGov Congress,” Senator Kate Lundy said.

“Our declaration of Open Government is a strong statement on where the Australian Government sees the future of government and we are pleased at the opportunity to share our vision with the world at the FutureGov Congress in September.”

Meanwhile NICTA’s e-Government cluster leader Dr John Gray said that the FutureGov Congress will provide opportunities for the Australian research and business community to showcase to government leaders the latest in innovations in the e-government space.

“We are all looking forward to the FutureGov Congress and the opportunity to further strengthen Government ICT in Australia,” Dr Gray said.

This year’s Congress, which will be held at the Canberra Convention Centre and co-hosted by the Australian e-Government Technology Cluster and FutureGov Magazine, will also be the prelude to bringing the annual regional FutureGov Summit to Australia for the first time in 2012.

At present, the following individuals and organisations are partnering with FutureGov Magazine to stage this international platform for the federal government:

Chief Minister Jon Stanhope, ACT Legislative Assembly; New South Wales State Government; Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research; Department of Human Services; SAP; IBM; ESRI; McAfee; TIBC; SiteCore; Think Canberra, Initiative of the Research and Learning Institutes Group; and many more.
