Azerbaijan: Law on Civil Servants' Age Limit Takes Effect

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev approved amendments to the Law "On civil servants", Azerbaijani President’s official website reported. The amendments to the law "On civil servants" set age limit for civil servants at 65. Term of office of civil servants reaching 65 years may be extended each time for no more than a year by the relevant executive authority head. Extending term of office for more than five years is not allowed.

Under the amendments, term of office of an administrative civil servant of 1-4 classification in civil service may be extended for more than five years with the relevant executive authority’s consent.

Number of civil servants, whose term of office in civil service at public authorities is extended, may not exceed five percent of a total number of employees of agencies, which compose a single system of this public authority.

iTerm of office of civil servants in public service is extended based on his or her consent. Age limit for civil servants is a basis for dismissal.
