Tajikistan National Development Council, chaired by President Emomali Rahmon, reviewed implementation of the country’s development objectives in a recent meeting attended by top government officials and development partners in Dushanbe, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Tajikistan Resident Mission (TJRM) reports.

The country’s key strategic objectives are: sustainable growth and economic diversification, enhancing human potential, and improving public administration.

The National Development Council reviewed progress of an Action Plan adopted during the Tajikistan National Development Forum in December 2010.

The Action Plan and related ten implementation plans are prepared based on the current Tajikistan Poverty Reduction Strategy, National Development Strategy, and Joint Country Partnership Strategy, and comprise priority measures to reform and strengthen governance, energy, transport, education, health, social protection, business environment, agriculture, and regional cooperation.

Next detailed review of the Action Plan is scheduled for autumn 2011.

The December Development Forum reviewed recent economic developments and discussed development challenges faced by Tajikistan, especially in infrastructure, human development, business environment, and agriculture. It was organized by the Government, with the support of the Development Coordination Council (DCC).

The DCC was established in 2007 to strengthen coordination and consolidation of efforts, dialogue and interaction between the Government and development partners, and among development partners in formulating and implementing the country’s reform agenda. The DCC consists of heads of all major multilateral and bilateral development partners, and is currently chaired by the Asian Development Bank’s Tajikistan Country Director Joji Tokeshi.
