(KPL) A training course on government policy management under the Executive Public Policy Training Programme (PPTP) was opened in Vientiane Capital yesterday.

Over 300 senior and middle-level government officials, including over 50 directors general, deputy-directors and division chiefs, have benefited from the training programme, said Vice-President of the Public Administration and Civil Service Authority Khammoune Viphongxay.

The training is focused on the implementation of core competencies in public policy areas ranging from basic economics and public finance, public sector management, to regional cooperation, supporting the transition to a market economy and integration into the world economy.

The training results showed very good outcomes after the successful completion of four similar courses for 200 participants since 2009, as well as three short thematic courses for 102 participants, said Dr. Khammoune.

ADB Country Director Chong Chi Nai said, the key challenge in achieving the country’s social and economic development and lifting the country out of poverty is to ensure that the country has sufficient and competent human resources, in particular policy makers and leaders who are skillful and knowledgeable in formulating the country’s policies and their proper implementation.
