Finance Minister Surendra Pandey on Saturday asked the private sector to cooperate with the government to ensure a better economic and industrial environment in the country.

While speaking at an interaction held by Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), he also said that the economic problems can be solved one by one through specific talks between government and business community.

Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, former Finance Minister pointed out the political parties should avert themselves from organising bandh, strikes and road blockades at least for three years to see the economy growing at healthy clip.

He also attributed growing energy crisis, frequent strikes, and insecurity to a poor economic growth in recent years.

The country's current economic growth rate is 3.5 percent while neighbouring India and China are recording 9 and 10 perent, respectively, he said. 'It is a matter which needs to be contemplated seriously".

Speaking on the same occasion, CNI president Binod Kumar Chaudhary lamented that even though the government had initiated Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Investment Board (IB) to give a boost to the industrial sector, the implementation aspect is too weak.

Chaudhary also announced setting up of a human resources development (HRD) centre to develop workforce for industries. CNI's HRD centre will work in developing human resource for industries, he said.

Minister for Industry Mahendra Prasad Yadav admitted that the country's industrial policy is not supported by the old legal framework.

Nepali industrial sector is regulated by the Industrial Enterprises Act, 1992.
