At the top 10 best value destination list, Bangladesh is followed by Nicaragua, Washington DC, Paris, Namibia, the Philippines, Argentina, Nepal, Ukraine and Syria

Country's tourism sector started the new year with the tag of 'Best Value Destination for 2011' by the leading travel guidebook publisher Lonely Planet, reports BSS.

The list came out as part of the leading travel guidebook publisher's 'Best in Travel 2011' publication. Lonely Planet, owned by BBC Worldwide, is the largest travel guidebook and digital media publisher in the world.

At the top 10 best value destination list, Bangladesh is followed by Nicaragua, Washington DC, Paris, Namibia, the Philippines, Argentina, Nepal, Ukraine and Syria.

"Definitely it's a great news for our tourism industry which would encourage all stakeholders of the sector to provide more hospitality to the foreign tourists at a reasonable price," Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Shafique Alam Mehdi told the news agency Sunday as part of his reaction.

The achievement of Bangladesh as top ranked value destination is significant as the Lonely Planet's list not focused only 'cheap' destinations rather it based on travellers-getting their money's worth-comments.

The Lonely Planet said Bangladesh might just be the cheapest place on earth to travel that offers marvelous meals for under US$1, a mid-range hotel room for less than 10 times that.

"You'll pay a little more to get around the Sunderbans National Park on a tiger-spotting tour-$150 or thereabouts-but it's still peanuts, even compared to what you pay next door in India," it said.

The introduction to Bangladesh on the Lonely Planet website brands it as a 'trend-setting, breathtaking and hardworking' country that others can learn from. Previously, Bangladesh had been named as one of the 10 Interesting Destinations 2009.

Lonely Planet also brings out travel guidebooks on individual countries every few years. The last edition on Bangladesh came out in 2008 and describes it as a "can-do country of open-hearted people, tigers, tea plantations and the world's longest beach."
