Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has introduced electronic-barriers across the state of Punjab, setting up as many as 36 information collection centres (ICCs) for all distilleries, courier companies, bottling plants, carrying and forwarding (C&F) agents and cement manufacturers.
The department has issued unique identification numbers to these companies to ensure that the entry of goods in the state is much faster, with no long queues and congestion at the 36 ICCs, by reducing the manual work at these tax barriers.
A Venu Prasad, Commissioner, Punjab Excise and Taxation said that the e-Barrier concept was first introduced in August. At present almost 25 per cent of goods vehicle entering into the state are using this electronic facility. “By March 31, we plan to have a majority of our operations shifting on this system,” he said.
