The Pacific Forum's Ministerial Contact Group meets on Monday in Auckland to discuss the political situation in Fiji. The MCG is a grouping of foreign ministers from Forum member states. It comprises the Prime Ministers of Samoa, Tonga and Tuvalu, who are also the foreign ministers of their respective countries and the foreign ministers of Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Fiji's Interim Foreign Minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola has been invited to outline the country's progress towards democratic governance.
Australia's foreign affairs minister, Stephen Smith will also be at the talks. He says he's disappointed that after three years, Fiji does not appear to have made any real commitment to democratic elections. Mr Smith will also have talks with Tonga's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister as well as his New Zealand counterpart, Murray McCully.
