An upcoming review of governmental projects and organizations could trigger a major realignment or privatization of government-affiliated bodies, administrative reform minister Yukio Edano said Saturday. Edano said whether to privatize a national center for university entrance exams would likely be a key issue in the next round of efforts to cut waste in government programs beginning later this month.
Edano said he thinks the National Center for University Examinations should be privatized as the unified entrance exams it administers are used not only by publicly run universities but private colleges. ββIt could be financially independent if it receives money from the private colleges using the exams in addition to those taking the tests,ββ he said.
Referring to government affiliates in the field of scientific research and development, Edano said they could be reorganized into around five institutions from the current 34.
