New Zealand's economy has reported its fastest quarterly growth rate in two years.
Official figures on Thursday reveal a 0.8 per cent rise in growth for the fourth quarter of 2009.
Economists and the government say the growth in gross domestic product - which was in line with the consensus of economists' forecasts - show a recovery is under way but uncertainty remains over the outlook.
Finance Minister Bill English says the figures are another step on the road to recovery.
But he says the country is still regaining ground lost during the global crisis, and New Zealand's own recession, which began in early 2008.
