Oman hosts Regional Cyber Security Centre

MUSCAT — The Information Technology Authority (ITA) yesterday launched a Regional Cyber Security Centre for the Arab Region here yesterday. The centre aims at enhancing e-security initiatives in the region, providing consultancy and technical services in this field in a bid to enhance joint capabilities and upgrade emergency response for information security incidents in the Arab region.
The Sultanate's hosting of the Regional Cyber Security Centre for the Arab Region comes in recognition of efforts made by the ITA in the field of electronic security in the Sultanate, as well as the leading role of the Authority in regional and international events earning it the appreciation of the ITU and Impact Organization. The ITU and Impact Organization presented an offer and proposal to turn the National Centre for Information Security of the Sultanate into a regional centre for e-security in the Arab region.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Dr Ali bin Masud al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of the ITA. It was attended by Houlin Zhao, Deputy Secretary General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and Datuk Mohammed Noor, Chairman of Impact Organization.
In its statement for the month of November, the Council of Ministers gave its approval for hosting the Regional Cyber Security Centre for the Arab Region in the Sultanate. The step comes in line with e-Oman and e-government initiatives, as well as the visions and strategies approved by the government, notably the national strategy for e-Oman society, the e-government and Oman Vision 2020. — ONA
