Dubai Government's Information Security Committee has held its first meeting at HH Dubai Ruler's Court to review information security in Dubai Government as per Resolution No. 13 of 2012 passed by Dubai Executive Council.

The meeting was presided over by H.E. Ahmad Bin Humaidan, Deputy Director of Dubai Ruler's Court and Director General of Dubai eGovernment; and was attended by the other committee members: Brigadier Hamad Obaid Al Mansouri, Colonel Yousef Hamad Al Sheibani, Major Rashid Ahmed Lootah, Mr. Marwan Salem Bin Haidar, Mr. Mohammed Ali Al Awadhi, Mr. Hamed Abdul Ghafoor Al Awadhi, Mrs. Mira Sultan Obaid and Mr. Ayoub Ali Al Ali.

During its first meeting, the Committee was briefed on its powers in its capacity as the Committee tasked with following up information security in Dubai Government. It also discussed the work plan for the upcoming period and the latest updates.

Bin Humaidan said: "The resolution recently issued by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, with respect to Dubai Government's information security is based on a profound understanding and awareness of the emirate's vital requirements. This resolution is aimed at devising an integrated strategy for protecting the government's information and information systems and creating a reliable environment for the storage of information, using the world's best practices. The first meeting of the committee is aimed at streamlining H.H. Sheikh Hamdan's resolution and to take practical steps for the work plan of the upcoming stage."

Bin Humaidan added: "Our local departments have exerted individual efforts in the information security field and have striven to ensure customer data and government transactions are secure, this being fundamental for achieving one of Dubai's objectives as embodied in enhancing the confidence of investors and businessmen by protecting their data and government transactions, particularly the online ones."

He pointed out that H.H. Sheikh Hamdan's resolution is a culmination of these efforts as it creates a unified information system for governing information security and its operations and ensuring the protection of information at the level of government entities in the emirate.

The Committee was formed under the Executive Council's Resolution No. 13 for 2012 with respect to information security at Dubai Government which was published in Issue No. 360 of Dubai Government's Official Gazette, on May 27, 2012. The resolution aimed at devising and developing an integrated strategy and a unified policy for the government's security of information and information systems as well as protecting them as being of a strategic and vital value to the emirate.

The resolution assigned several powers to the Committee including studying and adopting the information security system prepared by Dubai eGovernment, following up its implementation by Dubai government entities, conducting regular review of the system as per the results of the entities' evaluation of the system and ensuring the existence of an information security emergency plan at government entities.
