The purpose of the meeting was to benefit from the South Korean experience in setting up high standard eGovernment. The two parties explored ways to establish collaboration and cooperation in matters relating to the development of eGovernment.
Mohamed Ismaeel appreciated Yoon's assistance and support in the effective transformation of the
UAE Government's online services and reach to the public. He added, "South Korea has made landmark progress in the field of eGovernment. To fulfil the ambitious vision of our leaders, we also aspire to build an eGovernment system that is not only high quality but also sustainable. We could gain expertise from South Korea in developing eGovernment strategies and mechanisms for policy development, laws and general regulations."
Mohamemd Ismaeel, Acting director, Emirates eGovernment, Ahmed Ismail, Chief Information Consultant, and Abd El Wahab Mostafa, Systems Analyst at Emirates eGovernment met the visiting delegate and discussed the effective eGovernment practices and infrastructure. They discussed the developments in Information Technology and information security and integrity, and its applications in the field of eGovernment. Yoon shared his experience in establishing the government information centres and the use of PIN code for every citizen for accessing all government services and financial transactions.
They also discussed signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on eGovernment aiming to achieve constructive and strong cooperation in four areas: eGovernment strategy and its applications, joint scientific research and development programmes, exchange of visits and the transfer of expertise, and collaborative activities with the private sector related to eGovernment.
During Yoon's visit last year, the
UAE and South Korea had agreed on exchanging visits with the aim of sharing expertise and boosting cooperative activities to bring about comprehensive eTransformation by combining the public and private sectors. Both countries believe that eTransformation should be comprehensive and integrative and that compatible mechanisms of work related to this field should exist between the public and private sectors.
South Korea's global standing in the field of eGovernment was established last year when the nation stood first in the eGovernment eParticipation and Readiness Index conducted by the United Nations.
The
UAE eGovernment has launched a portal government.ae that brings together all the electronic services of the federal and local governments. For functional purposes, the services have been categorised for residents, businesspersons and prospective visitors to the country.
Emirates eGovernment works in line with the strategy of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, and is responsible for formulating and overseeing the implementation of the eGovernment strategy on the federal level, ensuring robust shared infrastructure for federal government entities, and enhanced government services.
