He said innovators should share their ideas with the youth so that they could also produce goods at affordable costs and help create employment.
“This way, the laboratories will be useful to the students and the community,” Kenyatta said, adding that is the direction the country should go.
The President disclosed that his government has embarked on implementing a national science, technology, engineering and mathematics programme to improve students’ innovation and creativity at every level of the education system.
“So we will do everything in our power to make education and training of international quality available to every Kenyan. The CEMASTEA is vital for those plans,” the President said.
The center will provide professional development to teachers in all subject areas; it will also establish satellite centers in every county, bringing home the promise of devolution.
The President welcomed the African Union Commission’s decision to designate the center as its lead agency for Science, Mathematics and Technology education to support the implementation of its plan for Africa’s 2nd Decade of Education.
Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi said the success of Vision 2030 depends on the training of quality human resources.
“This is why the teaching of science and mathematics has been given priority,” Kaimenyi said.
