Access Bank has donated 13 computers worth 2m/- to Mchanganyiko Secondary School in Dar es Salaam, as part of its strategy to promote application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in schools.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony, the bank's Senior Marketing Officer, Jonas Muganyizi said that the donation was part of their community involvement activities to share with them part of their profit.

Mr Muganyizi said that they have introduced sustainable strategy of distributing computers to schools to promote the use of computers in young generation.

According to Muganyizi, the bank has already provided computers to King'ong'o Secondary School in Kimara, Tuangoma Secondary School in Kigamboni and Mugabe Secondary School in Dar es Salaam.

He noted that Access Bank was established to support small entrepreneurs who had no access to financial institutions due to small capital. The School Headmistress, Ms Anastazia Msola said that the computers would enable the school to establish computer classes.

She said that the donation has come at the right time as it would help the students to learn ICT even though the school has few classes but they will make sure they set aside one class for computer studies.

"We are expressing our gratitude to Access Bank for this assistance and we ask the bank not to get tired of helping us as we face a lot of challenges, including shortage of classrooms and lack of water as well as laboratories," Ms Msola pleaded.

The headmistress added since the establishment of the schools they had never been able to do any renovations due to financial constraints. She appealed to stakeholders to support them so as to improve the quality of education.
