Cloudseed, who won the bid to provide connectivity for the network, will provide the core network which will comprise of Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity to all 2 200 provincial public schools
They have been awarded a two year contract
Thereafter, this service will be insourced and provided by the Gauteng Broadband Network.
The tablets will only be delivered to the schools when schools re-open in January 2014.
Short-term insurance will be procured for the tablets to mitigate against unforeseeable losses and damages, while on-going maintenance and support will be provided by the supplier.
This comes after the finance department decided to scrap the Gauteng Online Schools Project in favour of e-learning solutions.
