Zimbabwe is among the top countries on the continent with the fastest growing Information and Communication Technology sector, a recent survey has revealed.
According to Ookla, a global leader in broadband testing, Zimbabwe has an average speed of 3,05 megabits per second (Mbps) making it fifth on the continent and 103rd globally among countries with the fastest broadband download speeds.
The speed represents the moving average throughput over the past 30 days and shows only where the average distance between the client (from where the speed test is run) and the server is less than about 480 km.
Ghana is in first place with an average download speed of 5,16 Mbps, followed by Kenya and Angola with 4,98 Mbps and 4,53 Mbps respectively.
Rwanda is ahead of Zimbabwe with its speed averaging 3,29 Mbps while South Africa, which scored a dismal 2,98 Mbps, follows Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe has had major improvements in international bandwidth connectivity over the past two years with four operators now running live fibre connections to the undersea cable.
