The Government has urged the private sector in the communication industry to provide affordable Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities in order to make information technology accessible.
Transport, Works, Supply and Communication Deputy Minister Mwenya Musenge said putting in place ICT facilities would enable the Government to realise its goal of making information technology accessible in the country.
Mr Musenge said the ICT sector played a significant role in the attainment of social and economic development.
He said the Government would embrace the use of ICT as it would reduce the cost of doing business and enhance economic development.
"The ICT sector is central to the agenda of bringing Zambia onto the world stage of emerging markets that will enhance the country's investor destination of choice," he said.
Mr Musenge noted that Zambians needed to take advantage of the available technology in their midst to acquire essential information to better their lives and foster increased national and economic productivity.
He said the Government was doing all it could to continue to woo more investment towards the growth of the sector and to ensure that it created an enabling environment to all stakeholders in the sector.
Mr Musenge noted that the country was recording significant industrial growth, adding that if well harnessed and channelled with correct motivations and goals, it would greatly improve productivity in any given environment,
He said the sector needed an agent development agenda that would facilitate for realisation of the full potential of the country's ICT productivity.
