The project is done in the quest to use Libraries & Information Services to support and stimulate the socio-economic, educational, cultural, recreational, scientific research, technological and informational development of all communities in the country.
Public Internet Access is the extension of services provided by the department in community libraries. It aims to provide free internet access to the community members who will not have access anywhere else. The services will bridge the digital divide and minimize the gap between the people who have access to technology and those who does not have. Our studies show that on average 63 000 persons per month visit our libraries, with a majority being in school going youth.
The project is fully utilized in all community libraries, most popular amongst school pupils and youth. People use the internet for different needs ranging from education, employment, news and social network.
Media is invited to the Public Internet Access and Visually Impaired Services launch that will take place on 13th February 2012 in Mmabana Taung.
