Innovation Knowledge Management Training
Source: Issued by the Eastern Cape Department of Transport
Source Date: Friday, January 06, 2012
Focus: ICT for MDGs

Innovation Knowledge Management [IKM] is a new concept that is being introduced to Government by the Department of Public Service and Administration [DPSA] through the assistance of GIZ which has contracted Pinoak Consulting from Johannesburg to conduct IKM training in the Eastern Cape Province.

This initiative is intended to encourage staff to be more innovative, creative and it also looks to identify pockets of Excellence.

The need to train Departmental officials as champions of this initiative came as a result of findings made by Professor Zak of Pinoak Consulting, after he had interviewed Senior Officials and analysed questionnaires that were conducted by the Department’s Organizational Development.

The Office of the Premier had requested that the Department identify potential people who can be trained in IKM and 4 people per district, amongst them should be the following;

1x Records Management

1x Public Transport

1 x Traffic Control

1 x HR/OD

These staff members will be trained as champions and will be utilized by the Department to roll out IKM.

Based on the analysis by Professor Zak, departmental guidelines/strategies will be developed and this will also include consultations for further inputs by the department and the Office of the Premier before being presented to Departmental Top Management for approval.
