The introduction of electronic filing (e-filing) of land titles at Gasabo District significantly reduced cases of land disputes among residents.
In an interview with Eng John Karamage, the Coordinator of Infrastructure and Land Bureau at Gasabo District said that e-filing was set up at the district in February this year.
"Electronic filing has enabled us to improve our service delivery in as far as issuing land titles to the residents is concerned," Karamage said
He noted that before the introduction of the IT application, searching for a land file would take an average of two days, a process that now takes only a few minutes.
Karamage said that the electronic filing has also facilitated the district to avoid issuance of more than one title deed on one piece of land since there is a database that enables easy access to a land file.
He said that the new system will enable the district to boost its finances since the number of people applying for land titles had increased.
He added that currently, the district has about 17,000 files, 90 percent of which were filed under the new system. He encouraged other government institutions to apply a similar system..
