In her speech, Mrs Dookun-Luchoomun underlined that the course will enable the participants to launch their own enterprises or to seize job opportunities in existing ones. Her ministry, she said, will step up efforts to create additional retail outlets with a view to enabling them to sell their products. She also called upon the TEDPB to assist the participants in getting job placements.

The minister said that she will personally see to it that enterprises comply with the provisions of the Training and Employment of Disabled Persons Act 1995 with regard to the employment handicapped persons. She said that the government is making all efforts towards building an inclusive society. The policy of the government is also to see to it that the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is being respected, she added.

It is to be recalled that the TEDPB has been set up under the Training and Employment of Disabled Persons Act, 1996. Its main objective is to promote training and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
