Purpose: Most innovative use of technology in schools
Number of awards: Not more than one ‘Classroom project of the year award’ will be awarded.
Urban and rural schools - both public and private - from across Africa are encouraged to participate. Projects of any size and type are eligible for the award.
The winner of the ‘21st Century Classroom project of the year award” will be announced at Education Week.
This award will go to the school that has implemented or used technology in the most innovative way for improving learner development during the period 1 Jan 2010 – 17 June 2011.
The project must be perceived as having exemplarily applied learner development principles and met the eligibility criteria below:
- Only primary and secondary level schools - both private and public – are eligible to enter
- The project should relate to the use of any means of technology to enhance learning in the classroom
- The project should have made a positive impact on learner performance and development
- The project should have a track record and should have been deployed during the award period (1 Jan 2010 – 17 June 2011)
How to enter:
Send us a detailed motivation letter (maximum 2 pages) describing your project/innovation, indicating its benefits, purpose and how it works, as well as the value it brings to assist with learner development. Mention when it has been deployed, and who was primarily responsible for the implementation of the project and who was affected by the project. The specialist panel of judges will review the motivations and the winner will be announced during a ceremony at the event.

This award will go to the institution that has implemented or used technology in the most innovative way for improving learner development during the period 1 Jan 2010 – 17 June 2011.
The project must be perceived as having used technology to meaningfully improved academic output and have met the eligibility criteria below:
- Tertiary education institutions (not primary and secondary level schools), including FET colleges and universities - from across Africa are eligible to enter
- The project should relate to the use of any means of technology to enhance learning in higher level institutions
- The project should have made a positive impact on learner performance
- The project should have a track record and should have been deployed during the award period (1 Jan 2010 – 17 June 2011)

Best Safety Programme in Education Awards
Purpose: Best use of safety and security in an educational institution
Number of awards: Not more than one ‘Best Safety Programme in Education Award’ will be awarded to a school and a Higher Education Institution respectively.
Public and private schools as well as tertiary education institutions, including FET colleges and universities - from across Africa are encouraged to participate. Programmes and/or projects of any size and type are eligible for an award.
The winners of the ‘Best Safety Programme in Education Awards’’ will be announced at Education Week.
These awards will go to the education institutions that have implemented the most effective safety and security programme to combat violence and crime, including politically fuelled violence, substance and sexual abuse, vandalism, burglary, theft and armed robbery. The entry should be based on any programme which has been implemented since 1 Jan 2010.
The programme must be perceived as having used measures to effectively improve safety and security at an educational institution in order to create a safe and secure environment for optimal learner performance and meet the eligibility criteria below:
- Primary and secondary level schools as well as Higher Education Institutions, including universities, vocational training and further education colleges - both private and public – are eligible to enter
- The programme and/or project must be perceived as having used measures to effectively improve safety and security at an educational institution
- The programme and/or project should have made a positive impact on learner performance
- The programme and/or project should have a track record and should have been deployed during the award period (1 Jan 2010 – 17 June 2011)
