A five-day training workshop for 4,025 primary and secondary school teachers from various schools in Abuja opened on Tuesday at the College of Education, Zuba, Abuja.
Provost of the college, Prof. Tijjani Isma'il, said the 2010 Teachers' Professional Development Programme will take place simultaneously in 11 centres across the FCT and is aimed at training teachers in various subjects, including ICT.
He said the present curriculum review was undertaken by the Universal Basic Education (UBE) reform to make it more relevant to local and international needs, adding that it focuses on general education, localization of the content, pre-vocational skills as well as ethical values, among others.
Earlier, FCT Universal Basic Education (UBE) Chairman, Alhaji Musa Yakubu Maikasuwa, described the workshop as a capacity building one, which is important for the training of children in the classroom.
Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Ahmed Modibbo Mohammed, represented by Benjamin Tsadu, said the board was established primarily to intervene and support states in basic education delivery.
