Tweedie said the World Economic Forum on Africa would be an opportunity "for key leaders from the region and beyond to discuss how this growing confidence in Africa's potential can be translated into action and results."
The meeting provides a platform for business, government and civil society to explore the opportunities and risks facing the continent at this important juncture. The WEF will launch its latest Africa Competitiveness Report on Wednesday morning ahead of the official opening of the meeting, which will start with a highly interactive brainstorming session designed to engage the WEF's Africa community and kick-start the debate.
"A collaborative exercise will examine the region's position in the new reality and identify opportunities to unleash, accelerate and sustain its transition to inclusive, investment-driven growth," the WEF said.
African heads of state who have confirmed their participation include Togo President Faure Gnassingbé, Mozambican President Armando Emilio Guebuza, Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, Gabon President Ali Bongo Ondimba, and Zimbabwe Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai. Other regional and international leaders who will participate include former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan, Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, World Bank Africa region vice-president Obiageli Katryn Ezekwesili, African Development Bank president Donald Kaberuka, Nigerian central bank governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma.
