Easter Message from South African President Jacob Zuma
Source: The Good News

Over the next few days Christians will celebrate Easter and Jews will mark the festival of Passover. As South Africans we can use this period of spiritual invigoration to reflect on how best we may contribute to the building of social cohesion.

We wish all Christians well as they converge in various places of worship during the weekend. We urge that you pray for the country in all churches and synagogues. Let us pray for peace, harmony, unity and prosperity in our country. Let us pray for success and an end to poverty and suffering amongst the poor and unemployed. Let us pray for strength and wisdom so that we can overcome the various challenges that confront us as a nation.

During the past few weeks we have been shocked by a number of road accidents that have claimed many lives. I know that many of you will take to our country's roads for a holiday break, while multitudes will travel to Moria for Easter celebrations. Whatever our reason for being on the roads, let us be vigilant and travel safely so that we may all arrive alive.

The message of Easter is the resurrection of hope. Passover marks the celebration of freedom. Let us use this time of spiritual upliftment to strengthen our resolve to work for a better future for all South Africans so that we live up to the true meaning of these holy occasions.

Working together we can do more.
