Note of the Secretary-General on the Continuation of the Internet Governance Forum

A/65/78 - E/2010/68
The General Assembly, in its resolution 60/252 inter alia endorsing the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society adopted by the World Summit on the Information Society at its second phase, requested the Secretary-General to examine the desirability of the continuation of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), in formal consultation with Forum participants, within five years of its creation, and to make recommendations to the United Nations Membership in this regard. The present note responds to that request.

The World e-Parliament Report 2010
The World e-Parliament Report 2010 examines how global and regional inter-parliamentary cooperation can exploit synergies among nations to help parliaments in developing countries bridge the digital divide by overcoming the barriers of limited resources and technical constraints. It proposes to the parliamentary and donor communities a shared framework for e-parliament based on strategic goals that serve democracy, good governance, and the attainment of the internationally agreed development goals.

Workshop for Enhancing the role of National Economic Social Councils (ESCs) for Inclusive Socio-Economic Policy Development
A workshop entitled Enhancing the role of National Economic Social Councils (ESCs) for Inclusive socio-economic Policy Development will be held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso from 1-3 June 2010.

The main objective of this workshop is to strengthen the capacity of ESCs in Africa to support the participatory process in public policy making, implementation and monitoring, in order to enhance design and implementation of National Development Strategies and improve service delivery for the achievement of the MDG.

Briefing on Matters Related to the Internet Governance Forum
A briefing chaired by the Under-Secretary General of UNDESA, Mr. Sha Zukang will take place on 30 March 2010 at 3:00PM in the United Nations North Lawn Building in New York. All the Permanent Missions in New York are invited and will be briefed on the procedure related to submission of the recommendations of the Secretary-General(SG) on the desirability of continuation of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) within five years of its creation, as per Paragraph 76 of the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society (WSIS), endorsed by the General Assembly in resolution 60/252.

UNDESA announces the launch of the 2010 World Public Sector Report
The 2010 World Public Sector Report brings to the fore a very critical issue - how to reconstruct public administration in post-conflict situations so as to enable it to promote peace and development in countries that have been affected by civil war and destruction. It is a question that has remained unresolved for decades and has brought poverty, despair, and death to people in many corners of the world.

American Society for Public Administration Call for Proposals

The American Society for Public Administration, ASPA, is pleased to announce that the call for proposals for the 2011 Annual Conference is now open.

 

Under the theme 'Public Administration Without Borders', the conference addresses local, national and international opportunities and challenges faced by the United States. The event will take place in Baltimore, Maryland, in March 2011.

UNPSA 2010 Winners' Delegations
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs facilitates the search for innovations in governance and public administration through the Public Service Awards Programme. This year, public organizations from fifteen countries will be awarded with the most prestigious recognition of excellence in public service on 23 June, during the United Nations Public Service Day. The winners are as follows, in 1st place and 2nd place, respectively: (1st) Australia, Bahrain, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Oman, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia; (2nd) Albania, Australia, Bahrain, India, Italy, Japan, Oman, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Tanzania.
