An online interactive feature inviting motorists to note dangerous intersections in Saskatchewan has attracted a surge of comments for an especially worrisome spot in the province: an intersection near an industrial area.

CBC News published the interactive map at the beginning of October and, since then, dozens of trouble spots have been identified.

A cluster of dots shows how the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Kalium Road is a concern to many. (CBC)On Wednesday, activity on the map surged when more than 30 different users signed in to express concern about an intersection on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Just outside of Moose Jaw, the highway intersects with Kalium Road which leads to a busy complex of industrial facilities.

"This intersection is in need of an overpass and turnoff," one comment on the CBC map said. "Sask Hwy's should be accountable, or at the very least answer why not?"

Another person who identified the same spot as dangerous noted traffic is likely to grow in the area.

"Major expansions in the future and the traffic is only going to increase. Something needs to be done now," the commenter said.

—Interactive map userAn estimated 1,500 workers make their way to and from the industrial site on a typical workday leading to chronic traffic tie-ups and safety concerns in bad weather.

"When it's foggy out it's an adventure," Darwin Jarton, a worker at one of the plants — a Mosaic facility — told CBC News. "It's always your life in someone else's hands."

Jarton uses the intersection twice every day and says there are times when other motorists on the main highway make it difficult for people to merge with the flow of traffic.

"That makes you uncomfortable because you're trying to get up to highway speed, going 110-k from zero kilometres an hour," he said.

One suggestion, offered by Jarton is for a dedicated merging lane.

However, with the main highway construction season coming to a close, it will likely be some time before any significant changes are made at the intersection.
