Key policy measures in the field of eGovernment

The Ministry of the Public Administrative Reform and eGovernment of Greece is currently in the process of implementing its policy based on both:
• the maximum use of Government’s existing resources (i.e. the available software, the equipment and the institutional framework), and
• the review - in more realistic terms - of the operational programme "Administrative Reform" and the possibility it creates to finance new eGovernment projects.

The Minister pointed out three examples in which this approach has been implemented in practice:
• The exclusive internal electronic dissemination of documents within the Ministry of Administrative Reform and eGovernance. This policy was implemented in September 2012, without additional expenses. The aim is to gradually implement this policy in all ministries by the end of June 2013.
• The simplification of the current structures by setting up a three-member Coordination Committee for Electronic Governance, which, in cooperation with all ministries, will coordinate the specific actions at national level.
• The review of the operational programme "Administrative Reform" as its main objective to maintain all of its major projects and/or national resources.

Concluding, Mr Voloudakis described the practical steps of the upcoming actions regarding the project design for supporting the expansion of the electronic distribution of documents across the public administration. He also talked about enabling citizens to use digital signatures (optional), starting from those who use electronic public services systematically, such as lawyers, engineers and accountants/tax specialists, in collaboration with the Bar Associations of the country, the Technical Chamber and the Economic Chamber of Greece.
